The reason I say short is this...editors at article sites perform SEO on the articles submitted in order to get them cached by the search engines. If you keep your pages within a 500 word limit, you stand a better chance of that happening. Obviously, some topics require more than 500 words. When that happens, consider splitting your document into a PART I and PART II. This accomplishes two things.

It generates traffic for your business. Write fresh, targeted, marketing articles for submission to sites, blogs, and social pages. Every article contains a backlink to your site. If your work is interesting and well written, people will click on the backlink and visit your site. |
You want backlinks. But, you want quality backlinks. They're one way the search engines guage the importance of your site. The more links you have from top tier websites, the higher your page rank will be.
You can also trade links with other sites. You put their link on your site. They put your link on theirs. Just make sure it's a quality site that has some actual benefit to your visitors. Linking to sites that run similar article marketing campaigns adds value to your visitors experience. Also, make sure they don't bury your link somewhere in their web pages where no one's ever going to see it.
Should you write...or should you refer someone else's work?
That's really up to you. If you have confidence in your copywriting skills and you know your business inside out, then get started writing. The sooner you do, the sooner you'll see a jump in traffic.
If article marketing research isn't your thing...or...If your writing skills need a little work, you might consider using a writing and editing service, or some free article marketing software, to help you create and submit your articles.
