Blog Advertising...

Blog advertising is wide open. If it's something you plan on using, consider your options carefully. Full-on blogging is a time consuming, low paying, pursuit. Generally, blogging works best when combined with other business building methods.

Using web 2.0 to engage your customers helps you get a better feel for what they expect from you. This, in turn, helps determine the kinds of products and services you might want to market.

Should you start your own blog...or...should you contribute, or advertise, on someone else's? Don't agonize over this decision. It's a minor one.

If you want your own blog, go for it. If not, your advertisements and articles will be just as effective somewhere else.

Of course, there's nothing preventing you from doing both! It's actually a good strategy. Advertising your blog on other niche blog networks gets you double the exposure.

When you add affiliates to the mix, you have a recipe for explosive growth.

Advertise your affiliates free on your blog. Search for blogger sites that accept free ads. Advertise on networks that are reasonably priced. This creates the kind of ad layering that gets you seen consistently.

Consistency is Key...

Be sure to renew your ads when they expire. Make a commitment to add one or two new sites per week. Add new content to your weblog regularly. Submit your weblog for indexing by the search engines. All these activities keep the readers coming.

Pick what works for you...

Everyone is good at something. When you advertise on blogs, pick the things you like to do best. You'll see some examples below. They are split into two categories...

A blog of your own...

1. Put an RSS feed on your blog. Subscribers will be updated every time new content is added.

2. Add new content regularly. Try to keep your copy on topic with your business. Give your readers a reason to keep coming back.

3. Contribute to other blogs. Every time you participate in a discussion, you leave a backlink to your site. Make your comments interesting and relevant so people will click your link and visit your site.

4. Affiliate links and Google Ads can be used on your blog advertising pages. You'll could get a little income boost from these.

5. Sell ad space on your blog. This practice is beneficial to you and the person buying the ad space. You get extra income and they get exposure for their business.

A blog that's not your own...

1. One way to gain exposure is by writing articles and submitting them to blog ad networks.

Keep your writing relevant and pay close attention to grammar and puctuation. An informative, well written, article helps to identify you as an expert in your particular field. This, in turn, builds trust with your readers. Building this kind of trust is important if you want your visitors to keep coming back.

2. Cite interesting articles any time you run across them.

You'll be contributing useful information. The blogs you cite might also provide some valuable backlinks. Quality backlinks help your site rank better with the search engines.

3. Buying ad space on blogs.

Create ads for your own business or use your affiliate ads. You could do both. It's up to you. You'll find that lots of places offer package deals on advertising. Look these over carefully to see what's included in the package.

Some places only offer package deals as a way of selling otherwise undesireable ad space. Make sure you know what kind of blog advertising you're buying.

There's an added benefit to blog advertising and article marketing. They stimulate the creative juices. Subscribe via RSS to the blogs you find interesting. You never know when a thread might provide you with an interesting idea! Jot your ideas down and turn them into marketing blog articles in your spare time. And remember, give credit where credit is due.
