Email Advertising...

Email advertising is easy, effective, and FREE if you do it yourself! The only cost to you is time. Don't have the time? Email outsourcing isn't free, but it isn't expensive either. There are many reputable companies that specialize in email and newsletter marketing.

Building a marketing email isn't difficult. If you've never done it, you may want to start small and practice a little. Simple, one-product email ads can take less than one hour to prepare. You can make up a few of them ahead of time. These can be loaded into an autoresponder to be sent out weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly. The interval is up to you.

Read this example of an email advertisement that features a single product.

It's a very short message, a service advertisement, and the opt-out information. Simple and impactful is the way to go here. No one likes to be pushed into doing something. Please...keep your offers relevant with what your subscribers are looking for.

Always remember to include the link to your site at least once. Don't just link your mailers to your affiliate. You'll be losing out on some potential traffic. Who knows what other offers they might look at if you give them the chance.

Hello (subscriber first name),

Here's an offer I thought you might be interested in. This company's do-it-yourself service is perfect for a small business like your's. (Link to your website here)

To opt-out of these mailings reply to this email by typing "unsubscribe" in the subject box. (or you can add an unsubscribe link here)

If you're an affiliate marketer, consider making up one of these emails for each of the companies you promote. You could even make one up for each kind of ad creative your products have. The same is true if you have a website that offers a wide variety of products or services. Seasonal offers and special promotions can be done seperately as needed.

Feeling a little ambitious? Try email newsletter marketing.

Building a newsletter is a little more involved, but not much. A nice, compact, mailing newsletter could contain...

  • A greeting
  • A short paragraph on an interesting and relevant topic
  • A spotlight advertisement
  • A link to your website
  • A definition, word of the month, or joke of the month
  • A smaller product advertisement
  • A closing paragraph
  • Opt-out information
  • Another link to your website

Try to keep your newsletter short and to the point. Make it too long and your reader may lose interest. If they lose interest, you don't get the click!

Try a little article email marketing!

Try writing a few short articles to put in your newsletters. One or two paragraphs of relevant content is all you need. It's good practice if you plan on using article marketing as part of your advertising and marketing strategy.

Use free articles from resources like ArticleCity.com. Be sure to follow all guidelines when citing someone else's work.

Last, but certainly not least...

The Federal Government has some rules about email advertising. Please be sure that you comply with all the SPAM regulations. The CAN-SPAM ACT lists email no-no's. It's easy to comply. Avoid questionable content.

It's also a good idea to put your subscribers through a double opt-in process. Obtain your opt leads legally. Don't buy a mailing list from a website you're unfamiliar with. Maintain your opt list. Remove any unsubscribers from your mailing email list as soon as possible.

Your email business list is your money-maker. Treat it like gold! It's the simplest way to stay out of trouble.
