What is a newsletter?
A newsletter is a one-subject (usually), mini newspaper. They are published online and offline.
newsletter. Answers.com. Dictionary of Marketing Terms, Barron's Educational Series, Inc, 2000.
Why use this as a form of advertising?
When done well, these mini newspapers can generate a lot of repeat business for you. Remember, I said, "when done well".
Give your
subscribers
a reason to read yours by using good
copy
. The information should be of real interest to them. Not just another blatant advertising ploy.
How do you do that?
Let's say you own a nursery. Your publication might contain information on the care and upkeep of hard to grow plants. Or, you might let your customers know about any new plants you will be carrying this season. You could even include coupons or surveys.
By keeping your info relevant you build trust with your customers. They will read what you send them, every time you send it! And, because of that trust, they will be more likely to visit your business over your competitor's.
