What is a niche?
A niche is a specialty product or service that has little or no competition.
niche. Answers.com. Dictionary of Finance and Investment Terms, Barron's Educational Series,
| | Here are some examples...
- Custom welding
- Hoof trimming
- Organic vegetables
- Rescue dog training
- Stained glass windows
What do the things on the list have in common? They are all very tightly targeted industries within much larger industries.
Providing a product or service that no one else is providing is a sure-fire way to build a profitable business!
When you are able to tightly target a group of consumers, it makes you the go-to-guy in your field. The internet is a big place. You need to stand out from the crowd.
For an hilarious lesson on this subject I'd like to suggest the "mostly true" movie KINKY BOOTS by Miramax. You can find it among the DVD's on our RESOURCES page. It's the story of
Steve Pateman
, the owner of a shoe factory in the UK. See how he was able to skyrocket a dying company's sales by changing his marketing approach.
