What is ppc?

PPC stands for "pay-per-click". It works just like it sounds. You pay only when someone clicks on your ad. It may also be called a sponsored link

What is a pay-per-click ad?

If you've ever done an online search, you've seen a pay-per-click ad. They look like this-

We'll show you the fastest,
easiest way to pick carrots

These ads follow the classified ad format. If you have a Google Adsense account, you can use these ads to generate extra income for your business. When you host other people's paid ads on your site they are called sponsored links.

Here's what most online businesses end up doing, just because it works so well.
  • They advertise their business using pay-per-click ads. This gets them traffic and customers.
  • They make some, or all, of their advertising investment back by hosting sponsored links on their site.

What to expect...

This form of advertising can be very profitable. A pay-per-click campaign is easy to implement. The providers do most of the work for you. Your job is to monitor the results and adjust as necessary. Most providers offer full tutorials and huge forums. These are excellent tools. They help you learn how to set up and manage your campaigns.

You'll need to identify your niche . Once that's done, you'll need to find some profitable keywords . You'll need to become familiar with some terminology like ROI , CPC , and CPM . A successful campaign will require some effort on your part.

If you're really interested in using pay-per-click to advertise your business, consider picking up a copy of The Ultimate Guide to Google Adwords by Perry Marshall and Bryan Todd. I found it very helpful when I was starting out.

Almost every major search engine has a PPC program. Some call it search marketing. Still others call it sponsored search. It's all the basically the same. Do a little investigating when choosing a provider. Many offer incentives to open an account. This is usually in the form of advertising credits.
